SEO could improve with https website
Secure site could help Google rankings.
Google recently announced that switching to https:// from http://, which is essentially a secure URL — will give you a minor ranking boost.
Google have said that obtaining a secure URL (HTTPS) will give websites a ranking advantage but we believe that it is only “lightweight signal” at the moment in the Google algorithm. Google have said this carries “less weight than other signals such as high-quality content.” Based on their tests, Google says it has an impact on “fewer than 1% of global queries” but said they “may decide to strengthen” this and we believe them, as Google are very security conscience and will want to encourage website owners to be more secure and keep everyone safe on the web.
Google said that current tests carried out on the HTTPS signal showed “positive results” in terms of relevancy and ranking in Google’s search results. Matt Cutts, Google’s head of search spam, said “he would love to make SSL a ranking element in Google’s algorithm”. Well, he got his wish, as just 4 months after that announcement, Google is moving to make this a reality.
We have already seen most of the leading hosting companies like “Godaddy”, jumping on this straight away and why not…. if this does turn out to be a decent ranking factor, they could cash in on this recent news – most SSL’s cost anywhere between around £40 – £60 per year.
